Perfect day

I won’t leave my house today.

I got coffee,

from home,

along ways away

in a flyover state,

That no one cares about

but once every 4 years

But the coffee is good

I care about the caramel,

hazlenut, and vanilla blend

Subtle

and sweet

To chase away the thoughts

of a city that won’t stop

or pause

for even a moment

I’m staying inside today

Where I can barely hear

the sound of someone laying on their horn

blaring their music

or an awkward conversation

over a car’s stereo

I want to hear my music

my silence

I’m not leaving today

I’m staying inside

the coffee’s calling my name

Away from perfect weather

that fills my northern heart

with suspicion
